Zero Waste Clothing Design - From my Notebook

In the series ‘From my Notebook’ I publish entries that explore future ideas and past observations that have been simmering in my subconscious. Think of these moments as planted seeds of thought from trips, exhibitions, books, podcasts, conversations, documentaries and music to name a few stimuli.

Balancing Aesthetics and Fabric Yield.

The challenges of designing ergonomic forms that compliment the natural curves of the human body are at odds with the linear, geometircal shapes that maximise fabric in zero waste pattern cutting.

This paradox provokes clothing designers to take an experimental approach to design where balancing aesthetics and fabric yield is at the forefront, spurring trends in geometrical silhouettes.

How far will the next generation of designers push people to normalise new and unfamiliar forms in the name of zero waste?
